Bowling party planned to feed hungry at holidays

The Carson Area Wellness Association is hosting a bowling party Sunday to raise money to help feed the hungry at Christmas.

The association teams with St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church and other community organizations to sponsor the annual Homeless Christmas, where hot meals are provided along with an assortment of new and used clothing.

Last year, the wellness association provided 300 bags of nonperishable food items for the event and filled Christmas stockings for the children.

Chairwoman Sharon Vonnegut said the association spent about $5,000 last year, and are raising funds to support the cause this year.

"We are working to get as much as we can into our treasury," she said. "Whatever we get is what we will give."

The bowling party will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gold Dust West. During that time, up to four people can bowl for $15 per lane, including shoe rental.
