130 YEARS AGO

The Fay Party (spiritualists): The performance was a fraud in Nevada City - no pianos were flying around the room - no spectral hands seen flying in the air. Swindling the people who paid at the door was bad enough, but they jumped town without paying the printer. We do things differently in Carson. Efforts to beat the press are invariably followed by a lynching.

120 YEARS AGO

The mad rush to Oklahoma still continues. Some of the people who fail to get land should come to Nevada to secure a home. There is good land in this State, and it will be very valuable some day.

70 YEARS AGO

Governor E.P. Carville has issued a proclamation declaring in the state of Nevada - Indian Day September 26, 1941.

50 YEARS AGO

One hundred twenty-five new laws become effective on October 1. The most publicized law is the one which legalizes medical uses for marijuana.

• Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
