130 YEARS AGO

On Thursday night Archie Borland, Ursa Major of the Comstock was hit over the head and injured pretty badly. It seems that Borland had been struck by a man who had been hurt in a major way by Borland's alleged misrepresentation of mining property. It is not the correct thing that persons take the law into their own hands while it is reprehensible some mining manipulators drive their victims frantic. The wonder is more of these people haven't been hurt worse.

100 YEARS AGO

This morning Charley Watson was circulating a petition asking city fathers to call a city cleanup day. The issue had been discussed at the Civic Dinner, but was passed over for other matters. The petition is being signed by everyone it is put before, and should be in the hands of the Mayor soon.

70 YEARS AGO

Quite a few years ago when women where getting a foothold in domains previously masculine, men refrained: "But she can't scratch a match on the seat of her pants, because she ain't built that way." Now women have gone "slack crazy." We concede some look good that way.

50 YEARS AGO

The community is saddened by the passing of Dr. John L. Harvey, pastor emeritus of Carson City's First Presbyterian Church. Harvey was a long-time civic leader and sports enthusiast.

20 YEARS AGO

Two Reno police officers are hospitalized, one of them in a coma, when they fell from a second-story landing at an apartment where they had gone to make an arrest.

10 YEARS AGO

Two mountain meadows are now off limits to developers following the purchase by the Nature Conservancy.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
