Many papers over the state are rendering themselves ridiculous now by announcing any Tom, Dick and Harry as candidates for some state offices without the remotest authorization to do so. He believes its his special mission to render others as ridiculous or miserable as his pen can make them.

A wind storm that swept through here last night sent a shower of fruit to the ground, blew down many branches and tangled the electric wires. It was followed by a light shower.

Fifty tons of metal, over half of it select cast iron, has been moved out of the Nevada state prison into war industries. It was interesting to see what was being loaded, long secluded in prison yards. First to be loaded was an old crusher, vintage 1870 or earlier.

Soviet astronaut Pavel Popovich described one interesting experiment with a bottle of water. When a bottle of water has an empty spot in space, no matter how hard you shake the bottle, the sphere of air is always in the middle.

Nevada taxable sales increased 6.4 percent during June, the biggest monthly jump since the recession started in November, 1990.
