130 YEARS AGO

Among the tourists riding with Hank Monk from the lake last summer was from the genius blue stocking, an authoress from the east who was writing a book about the area. After interviewing our intrepid stage driver, she was on her way. Now Hank serves as an agent for the book, "Tahoe, or Life in California." As yet he has no subscribers, but expects some soon as his two or three friends win big at Keno.

70 YEARS AGO

Two men from Nevada are among 51 persons at Stanford University taking a 10-day course of the newly-established war department civilian defense school. They are Harold Case, a fireman from Las Vegas, and R.J. Newton of Carson City.

50 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Grant Sawyer has accepted the chairmanship of American Red Cross fund drive. Fund drives are held once a year for the group that supports disaster relief.

20 YEARS AGO

The school board of trustees listened to an ambitious plan to provide more technical training to high school students by combining efforts with Western Nevada Community College.

10 YEARS AGO

Decades of memorabilia went to new owners after a three-day action of Sharkey's Nugget in Gardnerville.
