Sexual assault case continued

An emotional outburst from an alleged victim marked the continuance of a Gardnerville man’s preliminary hearing in Carson Justice Court on sexual assault and lewdness charges Thursday afternoon. Jeffrey Volosin, 29, arrested on a warrant during an April 29 traffic stop, faces nine counts of sexual assault and lewdness with a child under age 14. He allegedly assaulted two girls between March 2001 and October 2009. He is charged with seven counts of sexual assault with a child under 14 and two counts of lewdness with a child under 14, according to court documents. After a brief recess in Thursday’s court proceedings, the defense and prosecution agreed to continue Volosin’s preliminary hearing until Dec. 11.One of the two victims who was in court to testify then stormed into the courtroom, shoes in hand, grabbed the bar separating the judge and attorneys from the public seating area, and yelled, “Just let him walk, I don’t ... care anymore.”The alleged victim was cautioned by bailiffs to quiet down, but Justice of the Peace Tom Armstrong said later he could see why she was upset. “That young lady’s outburst was understandable,” he said, telling the defense and prosecution that the case needs to “get going forward.”The state filed an amended criminal complaint against Volosin Thursday morning, consolidating the charges from a total of 14 down to nine.
