Obituary: Ada Kezia Stewart

Ada K. Stewart passed away on Sep. 20, 2012 at the age of 84. Mrs. Stewart is survived by her step-son, Robert James Stewart; his wife and children; numerous nieces and nephews; and her sister, Ruby Tudor, the last of her eight siblings.

Mrs. Stewart was born Ada Kezia Earl on July 8, 1928 in Iona, Kan., but spent most of her early years in Kingsville, Mo. She left home at the age of 14 and moved to Calif., where she worked as a secretary and waitress, and eventually met her husband to be Carl Stewart. On July 21, 1947 she married Carl. During their marriage of over 60 years, they owned and operated several businesses, including a diner and a taxi company in Sacramento and a liquor/grocery business in Carson City, Nev., named Stewart's Cork and Bottle. In between their business ventures they worked at Harrah's Lake Tahoe casino as dealers and pit bosses.

After retiring, Ada and Carl enjoyed spending time in Klamath, Calif., fishing off the cost and on the Klamath River.

Ada was an active member of the Eastern Star and served for a time as Worthy Matron.

A memorial service will be held at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, at 1281 North Roop Street in Carson City at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. All are welcome. Online tributes to Ada can be contributed to the Book of Memories found under the "Resources" tab at:
