TMCC scholarship aids jobless

Truckee Meadows Community College last week launched a scholarship to assist jobless workers get the skills they need to become employed.

The Maxine S. Jacobs Foundation of Reno donated funds to create the scholarship. Nevada Department of Employment, Rehabilitation and Training will assist with recruitment of recipients.

Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED,take a college placement test, and be able to enroll in at least two TMCC classes in the 2013 spring semester.

Once they are enrolled, students who receive the Maxine S. Jacobs Foundation Presidential Scholarship must maintain at least a 2.0 grade average.

Among the courses of study for which the scholarship can be used are accounting, business, health careers, industrial systems, information technology, logistics, manufacturing and welding.

The scholarship is available for one year of classes at TMCC.
