EMC studies mine plan

EMC Metals Corp. of Sparks said last week it’s continuing to study the possible resumption of mining at a tungsten property southwest of Winnemucca.

The Springer Mine was last operated by Utah International Corp. in 1980 and 1981, and EMC invested heavily in renovation of the facilities in 2006 and 2008.

EMC said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week that is evaluating plans to finance and manage a restart of the mine. A study last year estimated the capital cost of restarting the mine at $29.8 million.

The property is 25 miles southwest of Winnemucca.
