LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democratic Sen. Harry Reid has announced $7.4 million in federal grants to fight homelessness in Nevada.
Reid said Monday that 21 organizations are receiving grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency’s Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Renewal awards help people in different stages of homelessness by providing transitional housing, permanent housing, and other services.
Reid called homelessness a “persistent problem” in Nevada and said he was pleased so many groups would have new resources to address the issue.
Grant recipients include organizations based in northern, southern and rural Nevada. The largest pool of money is going to Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, which is receiving more than $2 million.
