Five tourism volunteers in northern Nevada received the VolunTourism award from the Nevada Commission on Tourism.
In addition, the Virginia City Tourism Commission was recognized for excellence in the use of grants for a streetscape and picnic-ground project it completed with state and federal funds.
Volunteers from northern Nevada who were honored include:
• Scott Carey, tribal planner for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, who won the Statewide Excellence in Tourism Award for his work to promote tourism while protecting the tribe’s culture and history.
• Paula and Jon Corley, owners of Corley Ranch in Gardnerville, which is known for its Harvest Festival, kids programs and weddings even while it remains a working ranch.
• Andy Rossman, director of Cultural, Tourism & Economic Development for Eureka County and an active member of the Pony Express Territory tourism promotion group.
• Donna Cossette, former chairwoman for the Fallon-Paiute Shoshone Tribe, honored for work preserving and promoting the culture of the Great Basin Indians as director of the Churchill County museum and a member of the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe Cultural Committee.
