The Carson City Board of Supervisors passed items paving the way for financing the purchase of the downtown office building known as the city's Business Resource Innovation Center.
They voted to do so, however, only after a discussion prompted when Supervisor Jim Shirk wanted to make certain payments for the Redevelopment Authority using the structure would continue.
City supervisors decided earlier to buy the building just northeast of City Hall. The city is doing so because it has a better bond rating and so interest will be cheaper than through the Redevelopment Authority, but money will come from the authority into the city's general fund.
Because the Board of Supervisors and the authority are each made up of the supervisors, others didn't see a problem but Shirk wanted to emphasize his concern.
• In other action, the board approved termination of the Carson River Advisory Committee with thanks. The board also approved moving a redevelopment special event application deadline from mid-February to mid-April, but decided to look into related aspects later, and allowed three more years, until 2016 for development of an Arrowhead Business Park.
Supervisor Brad Bonkowski urged the prospective developers, however, to conduct a needs assessment and proceed, noting Carson City can use this type of property. Bonkowski handles commercial real estate.
