The following events are planned on and around Independence Day.

Through Sunday

Carson City: Visitors to the Nevada State Railroad Museum can ride a train pulled by Virginia & Truckee steam locomotive No. 25 and photograph locomotives and cars on display. Train rides are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Outdoor exhibits are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum’s interpretive center and store will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket prices range from $4 to $15.

Friday

Carson City: The Mighty Surf Lords perform at 6 p.m. at Café at Adele’s. For more information visit www.adelesrestaurantandlounge.com.

Friday-Saturday

Carson City: Carson Station is hosting the second annual Rib Cookoff. It features a cooking competition, live music, rib eating contest, kids’ games and vendors.

Saturday

Silver Springs: A night hike at Fort Churchill State Historic Park is set for 8:30 p.m. Participants can look for scorpions and learn constellations. The hike is limited to 30 participants, and reservations are required. To make reservations, call 775-577-4880 or send an email to bucklandstation@hotmail.com. This hike is about 0.6 mile long and will last about an hour.

Carson City: Admission to the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be free all day.

Sunday

Gardnerville: Valley Christian Fellowship church will hold an event at 10 a.m. at Lampe Park. It will include horseshoe and volleyball tournaments, a bounce house and barbecue. Information: 775-265-4100.
