Big new customer-support centers in the Reno-Sparks area helped boost the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada over its target of 2,000 new jobs during the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The jobs-development agency said it assisted companies that created 2,112 new jobs during the year. Those companies include new employers to the area as well as existing companies that expanded their payrolls.
Among the big new employers that announced plans in the just-completed fiscal year were GreatCall, a provider of wireless and emergency-call services that’s opening a 400-seat customer-care center in Reno.
Also boosting the year’s job-growth figures was One Contact Inc., which added 200 jobs with a newly established center to provide business-process outsourcing services in Reno.
A manufacturer whose identity hasn’t been disclosed accounted for another 350 new jobs landed by the region in the past 12 months, EDAWN said.
Growth among existing employers accounted for about 10 percent of the job gains reported by EDAWN.
Game-software developer 3G Studios accounted for the biggest chunk of the job growth among existing employers as it added 50 jobs.
E-commerce distributor GSI accounted for 36 new jobs and Sierra Packaging and Converting added 32 jobs among other major additions by existing employers.
Projected annual wages in the new jobs, both among new and expanding companies, topped $39,000.
EDAWN said California companies looking to expand or relocate currently account for about 40 percent of its workload, and it said the pipeline of job-creation projects is beginning to fill.
