Industrial-filtration manufacturer to move manufacturing to Minden

New Logic Research Inc., an Emeryville, Calif., maker of industrial filtration systems, is moving its manufacturing operations to Douglas County.

The company has made an offer on a 60,000-square foot building near the Minden-Tahoe Airport with the goal of starting up operations before the end of the year. The facility would initially employ about 21 people, about half of whom would be new hires in the area, and is expected to employ as many as 60 people within five years, according to Greg Johnson, New Logic Research president.

The 25-year-old manufacturer will start hiring in November for a variety of jobs, eventually employing welders, electricians and assembly operators as well as mechanical, electrical and chemical engineers.

Johnson said New Logic Research is growing and was looking to expand outside California, where the cost of doing business continues to rise.

“Our electricity costs are twice as much as in Nevada, our worker’s compensation costs are twice as much,” says Johnson. “And income and sales taxes were just raised here.”

Johnson says the company looked at other locations, including Wyoming, but was pleased with northern Nevada’s business friendly policies, quality of life, universities and proximity to the Bay Area.

The company has been approved for a grant from the state’s Catalyst Fund, a $10 million fund to assist companies with relocation or expansion, and applied for tax abatements, an incentive provided by the state. Northern Nevada Development Authority assisted the company.
