Second Carson job fair is Friday

Next week’s job fair in Carson City could lure 1,000 or more job seekers to meet 50 employers or employment-resource people, an event organizer said.

The event is set for 2-5 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., and is the second such job fair this year.

The first, in February, attracted 36 employers and 619 job seekers to the Carson City Senior Center dining area.

“Fifty employers and resources have taken time from their busy schedules to come and meet you face-to-face,” job seekers will be told in a handout as they enter Friday’s fair. “So we hope you are prepared with resumes.”

Those attending also will be told that employers participating in the last job fair said some disappointed job seekers didn’t always follow up after the event.

So the handout advises attendees to follow up and follow through.

At least 14 percent of the job seekers who attended the February fair were employed as a result, according to a survey.

Friday’s job fair is sponsored by the Carson City Health and Human Services Department, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and JOIN, or Job Opportunities in Nevada.
