Sandoval signs illegal wildlife bill

Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed a bill making it illegal to possess any wildlife that was hunted, acquired or transported from another state or country in violation of laws or regulations.

Sandoval signed Senate Bill 11 on Wednesday.

Violations are a misdemeanor punishable by fines up to $500 and up to six months in jail. Offenders are could be assessed civil penalties based on the type of wildlife involved.

The law takes effect July 1.

The governor also signed SB26 creating an automated statewide victim notification system.
