During the third annual Connect Nevada Broadband Summit at the University of Nevada, Reno, the Carson City Library was named Connect Nevada’s 2013 Broadband Hero. The summit theme, Learning in the Digital Space, was designed to promote access, adoption and use of broadband in education. In 2010, the library was awarded a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program grant that has provided resources for technology tools and instruction.
“The total BTOP grant was $596,999,” Tammy Westergard, interim library director, said in a news release. “For Carson City’s portion request, the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation provided a 27.2% cash match of $162,658, adding to the $434,341 award.”
On Nov. 13, the Board of Supervisors and School Board adopted a joint resolution to co-adopt each board’s strategic plans for education with emphasis on access to technology and opportunities to learn with it. The library will adopt its 2014-19 strategic plan in December.
