‘See the USA’ or ‘Plop, plop’: The jingles we remember

MSN Money recently compiled a list of more than a dozen memorable jingles that have been developed since the early 1950s. In order, the top five include:

1.“See the USA in your Chevrolet”. This was sung by Dinah Shore at the beginning and the end of her television shows.

2.“N-E-S-T-L-E-S…Nestles makes the very best…Choco-late”. This was performed by ventriloquist Danny O’Day and his dog, Farfel. The jingle ran for more than a decade.

3.“Plop, plop, fizz, fizz…Oh what a relief it is”. The Alka Seltzer jingle, sung by mascot, Speedy, remains in the minds of millions of Americans today.

4.“I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner.” This jingle caught fire for the company and a few years after its introduction was followed up by another familiar ditty, “My bologna has a first name, O-S-C-A-R…”

5.“When you say Budweiser, you’ve said it all.” This jingle was written by Steve Karmen who was dubbed by People Magazine as the “king of the jingle.”
