Annual crab feast fundraiser is Sunday

Capital Christian Center’s seventh annual Extraordinary Men’s Steak and Crab Feast will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The feast has been a popular event with Northern Nevada men in the past, and Jeff Love, director of Capital Christian Center’s Extraordinary Men, said this year will not disappoint.

“We have 600 pounds of crab — cracked, cooked and cleaned,” he said. “We have tri-tip roast, smoked and cut into steaks. Men usually get a heck of a stuffed feeling. That’s what we want.”

Tickets cost $30, or $15 for ages 12 and younger. A table of eight costs $200. Doors open at 5 p.m. at Capital Christian Center, 1600 Snyder Ave.

Proceeds from the dinner go to scholarships seniors graduating from high schools in Carson City, Dayton and Douglas County.

“We wanted to help local community kids that have a desire to further their education,” Love said. “Let’s give some of these kids a head start on their college education.”

Love said the group hopes to raise enough money to give out more than $40,000 in scholarships this year.

He said he expects several dignitaries to attend, including Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev.

“Men have a great time,” he said. “And there’s a chance at winning 125 quality raffle prizes.”

Raffle prizes include an AR-15 rifle, a Savage Model 11 rifle, a Sig Sauer 1911 pistol, a Remington 870 shotgun, vacation packages and outdoor equipment.
