List of primary companies begun

A newly developed directory is designed to help manufacturers and other primary employers shop local.

The Primary Company List developed by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada lists about 300 primary employers in the region.

The agency defines a “primary employer” as a company that generates a majority of its revenues from customers outside the region.

Nancy McCormick, EDAWN’s vice president of business retention and marketing, says executives of many of those companies have expressed a desire to find local vendors and subcontractors.

And McCormick says that other companies in the region can use the Primary Company List to make connections with locally based suppliers.

The list (it’s at www.edawn.org/local-resources/primary-company-list/) can be exported and sorted by name, county, industry and NAICS codes. It’s also searchable by key words.

Companies in Washoe, Storey and Lyon counties are included.

McCormick noted that EDAWN is aware that the list is far from complete — the current version includes slightly more than 300 companies — and it’s welcoming additions and corrections. Contact Cynthia Egan, egan@edawn.org, to suggest changes.
