Carson City’s Ken Beaton is visiting Italy through June 5. He arrived on May 25, in time for the 70th anniversary of Rome’s liberation by the U.S. Fifth Army and the opening of a new visitor’s center in Nettuno, Italy, on Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day ceremonies opened with the Italian Military Band playing the Italian National Anthem and the Comnaveur Band from the USN Base in Naples, Italy, played the U.S. National Anthem, followed by an opening prayer, presentations by dignitaries from both countries, a laying of wreaths, followed by taps.
