A nonprofit that helps veteran-owned small businesses will celebrate its arrival in northern Nevada with a two-day small-business conference in Carson City on Nov. 5-6.
The Veterans Business Outreach Center, headquartered in Sacramento, opened a center in Reno this summer, says Coreena Conley, the president and chief executive officer of the nonprofit.
It’s sharing space with the Small Business Administration at 300 Booth St., Suite 3060. The SBA provides a portion of the funding for the veterans business program.
That office space will be used by staff and volunteers with Veterans Business Outreach Center as it provides free individualized counseling to veterans and members of the Guard and Reserve who are looking to start, expand or sustain a small business.
“Basically, we work with them on the gamut of all that it takes to be successful in business,” says Conley.
She says counselors and veterans develop specific work-plans and measures of accountability as a framework for the counseling.
The Veterans Business Outreach Center also conducts workshops on specific business subjects — finance or marketing, for example.
And it conducts one and two-day conferences that provide in-depth study of subjects such as the strategies small business owners can take to win government contracts.
The conference Veterans Business Outreach Center has scheduled in November will include the formal ribbon-cutting for its services in northern Nevada.
The event will be hosted by the Nevada Governor’s Mansion. Along with open ceremonies and panels on business management, the conference will include business matchmaking.
