Marriage licenses available today

Marriage licenses for any couple, including newly-eligible same sex couples, can be issued at Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover’s Carson City office again today.

The office for marriage licenses will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Glover said earlier, and persons wishing to obtain one just need proper identification, answers to pertinent questions and the $75 fee. Glover said there’s no waiting period for the marriage after obtaining a license. The office is in Suite 1025 at the Courthouse, 885 E. Musser St.

Same sex couples were cleared for marriage in Nevada’s capital Thursday in the aftermath of some confusion regarding eligibility. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy on Wednesday issued a prohibition order involving Idaho and inadvertently included Nevada, but soon rescinded the Nevada ban.

The federal Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals had cleared the way for same sex marriages, but Idaho appealed and Kennedy’s initial order temporarily stayed such marriages in both states. However, he soon rectified that by removing Nevada from the ban and Carson City was issuing licenses by mid-afternoon Thursday.
