Carson City Planning Commission tackles pot, animal shelter

Medical pot places from the private sector and city government’s animal services shelter will go before Carson City’s Planning Commission this afternoon.

The commission will take up four requests regarding medical marijuana locations and one from city government’s Public Works Department dealing with the shelter. The commission meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, William and Roop streets.

The animal services proposal is for a 10,995 square foot building within Carson City’s corporate yard on land zoned public regional at 549 Airport Road, the agenda said. City government plans to build an animal shelter costing an estimated $3.9 million with at least $200,000 from private sector donations and the rest from city coffers, according to recent information.

The structure, according to the agenda, is proposed as a facility for the adoption, shelter and management of animals such as dogs and cats.

The commission also will consider requests from WSCC, Inc for a medical marijuana cultivation facility in one location and a medical marijuana dispensary in another. The grow facility is proposed on property owned by Gracenote Real Estate LLC at 3493 Arrowhead Dr. The WSCC dispensary is planned on property owned by Sanbar G.P. at 2765 U.S. Hwy. 50 East.

Also up for discussion and possible action are requests from NNV Services II, LLC, for dispensaries in two locations. The first is on property owned by Auburn Ravine Investors, LLC, at 3359 U.S. Hwy 50 East. The second is on property owned by Fast Foodies located at 211 Appion Way.

By state law, Carson City can have just two dispensaries. All four of the medical pot requests will be heard prior to the state issuing any provisional certificates for medical marijuana establishments, according to the agenda.
