In town. “Yankee Plumber,” the humorist, lecturer and elocutionist, is in this city. Yesterday, Friend’s thermometer registered 80 degrees. His barometer is also falling slowly, which indicates rain or snow, in the near future.

130 years ago

A feeling of suppressed excitement has been created in the community by a report which appears to be thoroughly authenticated, that some rich gold rock was yesterday struck in the stone quarry at the State Prison while blasting out stone to be used for the State Printing Office. The discovery of gold within the enclosure of the State Prison is likely to lead to misunderstanding.

This week’s output of the Tonopah mines was 10,760 tons of the estimated value of $219,640.

Mrs. Harvey Newman, Mrs. Emma King and Mrs. Honora Muller were hostesses to Capital Rebekah Circle Tuesday evening at the Newman home in Valley Park.
