The robbery trial. The counsel for the stage robbers are striving their hardest to secure all the possible advantages known to the quirks and quibbles of the law. They tried yesterday to get a change of venue to this county. It was denied. They tried a continuance, but was denied. Every foot of ground will be closely and bitterly contested, we have no doubt.

130 years ago

The lying tournament. An election for a champion liar is to be held at Giles, Ariz., and the successful candidate is to get a medal and a serenade. Sam Davis, of the Carson Appeal, is packing his valise with light summer clothing and will start in a few days. He says he doesn’t care for medals, but is passionately fond of music.

100 years ago

When you can think of nothing else to do, just smile — and let it stick.

Final plans for Nevada Day will be drafted tonight at a special meeting of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce. “The work will be passed out — and there will be plenty of it,” says Bernard Hartung of the Chamber of Commerce.
