Back 40 featured at First Baptist block party today

The Back 40 Band will be featured at First Baptist Church’s block party to be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at the church at the corner of Bath and Mountain streets in Carson City.

The Back 40 Band plays country and classic bluegrass music. The band has been voted Metrolands Best Country Band five times and has been a three-time winner of the Times Union Best of the Capital Region award.

The block party will also feature drawing prizes, games, a bounce house, other activities for kids and free lunch.

Annual interfaith picnic and food drive to benefit FISH

The Interfaith Community of Carson City is holding its seventh annual interfaith potluck picnic and food drive from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 7 on the lawn of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. All members from the community are invited to attend.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church once again has graciously volunteered the use of its lawn area at the corner of Division and Telegraph streets.

Father Chuck from St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community will lead a combination of singers from the Catholic and Methodist faiths. Boy Scouts will be on hand to accept nonperishable food donations for F.I.S.H.

All attendees are asked to bring a main dish, salad, side dish, or dessert to share in the potluck. Attendees are asked to bring their own plates, eating utensils, and lawn chair. The interfaith council will provide chilled bottled water.

Outreach center offering free breakfast Tuesday

St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Outreach Center, 4280 Highway 50, Silver Springs, is offering free breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The center holds free breakfasts on the first Wednesday of the month. For more information, call 775-577-9606.
