Carson City native participates in flyover at Poinsettia Bowl

Naval Aircrewman Petty Officer 2nd Class Vance Harper, a native of Carson City, participated in a flyover conducted in Coronado, Calif., at the Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday.

Harper attended Western Nevada College pursuing a degree in Engineering and Design. Following six years in the field of architecture and graphic design, he later enlisted in November 2011. Following Search and Rescue Swimmer School in Pensacola, Fla., he was designated a Naval Air crewman in March 2013 and reported to HSM-41 for fleet replacement training in the MH-60R.

Upon completion of the FRS, Petty Officer Harper reported to the HSM-73 “BATTLECATS” where he completed one combat deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, six months onboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), and four months onboard the USS DEWEY.

Harper resides in San Diego and continues to develop his career in search and rescue.
