Carson City RadioShack stores will be closing

The two RadioShack stores in Carson City will close, according to RadioShack’s corporate website.

The Carson City stores, one at 956 Topsy Lane Suite 102 and 3147 Highway 50 East will close. No timeframe was giving.

The company recently announced restructuring after declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

RadioShack filed for bankruptcy protection last Thursday. Part of its plan is for Sprint, the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier, to open mini-shops in as many as 1,750 of RadioShack’s remaining stores.

The long-struggling consumer electronics chain, which was founded nearly a century ago, planned to sell 1,500 to 2,400 stores to its largest shareholder, investment firm Standard General, according to the Associated Press. It’s seeking to close the remainder of its 4,000 U.S. stores.

The company, which has not turned a profit since 2011, employs about 27,500 people worldwide, according to its last annual report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
