Nevada Humane Society director to speak at Carson City’s Soup’s On

The public is invited to hear and meet Nevada Humane Society Executive Director Kevin Ryan at the Carson City Chamber Soup’s On! luncheon scheduled at the Gold Dust West, Wednesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 11:30 am.

Cost is $17 per person with advance reservation and $20 at the door. To RSVP, call 882-1565.

It’s been a long time coming, but the building of a new, state-of-the-art multi-million dollar animal shelter will become a reality within a year. Ground breaking is expected in March.

The new shelter will be funded through bonding resulting from the 1/8 cent sales tax increase that took place with additional funds raised by CASI — Carson Animal Services Initiative — the organization pledging $200,000 to be used as a community “donation.”

The operation of the current animal shelter is now operated by the non-profit Nevada Humane Society through a contract with the city effective Oct. 1, 2014.

Ryan is overseeing the day-to-day operations and is instrumental in the design and building of the shelter.
