File your taxes for free: IRS touting benefits of Free File software for Nevadans

LAS VEGAS — A federal tax official says most Nevada taxpayers will be able to begin using Free File software and electronic filing beginning Tuesday.

Internal Revenue Service spokesman Raphael Tulino says the program is supported by the Free File Alliance and can help in new health care law calculations.

Tulino says about three in four federal tax returns filed by Nevadans are below the $60,000 income level.

Since there’s no state income tax in Nevada, the program can make tax filing truly free for hundreds of thousands of people in the state.

He says last year, only about 18,000 Nevadans used Free File.

Nationally, more than 3.2 million people used it.

The Alliance is a consortium of 14 leading tax software companies.

Tulino says it’s available only on the website IRS.gov/FreeFile.
