Top Silver State Health Insurance Exchange official resigns

LAS VEGAS — A top Silver State Health Insurance Exchange executive says she plans to resign next month.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that Shawna DeRousse plans to resign from her position as chief operating officer at the beginning of next month to pursue a career in the private sector.

DeRousse announced her departure during an open enrollment period where customers can buy subsidized health insurance plans mandated by the Affordable Care Act. She helped the exchange program rebound after it dumped the glitch-ridden Xerox system in May and switched over to the federal system.

More than 52,000 Nevadans have enrolled as of Jan. 16. Open enrollment ends Feb. 15.
