Religion briefly: Carson City’s First Baptist to host grand prix for miniature soap box cars

First Baptist Church of Carson City invites all family and friends to the Awana Grand Prix for Pinewood derby miniature soap box cars on March 28, 10 a.m. at 1750 Mountain St.

A community open division will be held at 1 p.m. for anyone wanting to participate. Open category weigh in and a light lunch begins at 12:30 p.m. Awana rules apply and previously raced cars are OK. First Baptist announces Easter Week schedule

First Baptist Church of Carson City, 1750 Mountain St., will services and productions for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. All of the services are open to the public.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, the church will conduct a portrayal of The Last Supper aong with Jesus’ foot-washing of the Disciples feet following the custom of that time. Communion will be served.

At 6 p.m. Friday, April 3, the church will hold a Good Friday “Walk to Calvary” re-enacting Jesus’ walk on the road to Calvary. The congregation may participate in nailing their sins to the cross reflecting the sacrifice Jesus made for the redemption of mankind.

At 10:45 a.m. Sunday, April 5, the church will present the Easter Sunday drama presentation, “And Now He’s Gone, a mini-drama set in the tim between the Crucifixion and Resurrection with Biblical characters reflecting on what the death of Jesus meant to them.

On Easter Sunday, First Baptist Church will also host an Easter breakfast before the 10:45 a.m. service and an Easter egg hunt to be held after the service, with details for those events still to be determined.

Episcopal center consecrating alter Sunday

Rt. Rev. Dan Edwards, Episcopal Bishop of Nevada, will consecrate St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Outreach Center’s new altar at 3 p.m. Sunday.

St. Hugh’s, which plans to hold monthly communion services, is using the building that was Marilyn Monroe’s dressing room when she was in the area making the movie,“The Misfits.”

The center, at 4280 Lincoln Highway in Silver Springs, holds free monthly breakfasts, a holiday craft fair, flea market and other celebrations. Its Lenten prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
