SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Free ride — not confused about which way to go

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: Pardon the pun, but we’re ‘JAC’d’ up about JUMP AROUND CARSON, better known as JAC, offering free rides around Carson City Monday. It’s the service’s 10th anniversay and for the last 10 years, JAC has provided a much needed public transportation service to the community as shown about how much it’s used.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those retirees from the Nevada Army National Guard, who were honored during a ceremony last weekend.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the legacy of Mustang 22. Last weekend was the 10th anniversary in which five military personnel were shot down and killed in Afghanistan and Nevada guardsmen — Chief Warrant Officer 2 John M. Flynn of Sparks and Sgt. Patrick Stewart of Sparks — along with three other soldiers — Warrant Officer Adrian B. Stump and Sgt. Tane T. Baum, both of Pendleton, Ore., and Sgt. Kenneth G. Ross of Peoria, Ariz., were honored in Reno.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Jaedah Andrus, Ardin Chatwood, Robin Christy, Marissa Lucero and Karen Stearns from graduating from the Capital City C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Getting Ahead program and to the program for its community effort to help families become self-sufficient. The five graduates were honored in a ceremony last week.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the 200 volunteers and the Kiwanis Club of Carson City and Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada, for their participation in the 26th Annual Carson River Cleanup during the BLM’s Public Lands Day last weekend. Also to the BLM and Carson City to transfer the federal lands Silver Saddle Ranch and the Prison Hill Recreation Area to the city.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City’s Barbara Perkins, who overcame an injury to recently compete in the IronMan 70.3 World Champonships in Austria.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Dayton football player Jason Sandborn, who hasn’t let his deafness stop him from competing for the Dust Devils.
