Weather should be great for Nevada Day Parade in Carson City

Clear skies with temperatures in the 50s, ascending to the low 70s, is the Carson City forecast for the Nevada Day parade.

Despite a taste of early winter coming next week, a brisk autumn morning is anticipated as parade watchers and Nevada Day revelers gather Saturday morning. After the parade in the afternoon hours, a golden autumn day is in store for those celebrating the state’s 151st birthday here if weather forecasters have it right.

“It’s going to be a beautiful day,” Dawn Johnson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno, said Wednesday. “Actually, we could possibly see record highs.” She said the morning 50s would ascend to perhaps 72 degrees or higher. After noon, in other words the sun should bathe beard contest competitors, rock drilling contestants and after-parade revelers in resplendent pre-November weather.

“There might be a few clouds around,” Johnson said, “but no precipitation.” She also said winds would be little more than absent to breezy if and when it picks up a bit.

Weather Underground, a website that takes the risk of pinning things down a bit more, backs up that official forecast. It calls for a 9 a.m. temperature of 51 degrees in Carson City Saturday, 57 at 10 a.m., 64 at 11 a.m. and 69 at noon. The 1 p.m. guesstimate for Saturday by the website is for 71 degrees with it possibly ascending from there by mid-afternoon.

Johnson, meanwhile, said the Sunday-Monday forecast takes an abrupt turn toward the region’s first wintry weather. She said it would kick off Sunday with wind and be followed by rain and some snow at higher elevations on Monday.

“This will be our first wind event that we’ve seen in awhile,” she said, predicting blasts easily could exceed 50 miles per hour on Sunday. Come Monday-Wednesday, she said, daytime high temperatures in the 40s are expected with snow activity initially at 9,000 feet but coming down to about 5,000 feet Monday.
