The Park Auto building, 1208 E. William St., was demolished Friday to clear the 2.4 acre site for potential development across from Mills Park.
The half century old building has housed Park Auto and other businesses across William Street from the Marv Teixeira Pavilion near the east end of the park.
The razing was handled by Coons Construction of Mound House for RCM Realty Group and the owners, CC Note Investment Group, LLC. Developer Mark Turner, involved with both the realty group and the ownership group, said the commercial site is “brimming with potential.”
He cited as an example proximity to development under way on land to the east, where a United Federal Credit Union branch and a car wash are going in. Those new-to-Carson City businesses are being developed west of Starbucks, FedEx and the center in which they’re located.
Calling the newly cleared Park Auto site commercially viable, Turner noted its proximity to the city’s largest park, the Carson City Community Center and Carson Aquatic Facility, Carson High School and various businesses.
“Directly behind this site along State Street,” he said, “is a seven-acre residential parcel that is in the conceptual stages of development for a residential project in conjunction with this commercial piece.” The site adjacent to the north actually is a bit larger, at 7.7 acres, and Turner has an ownership stake in it as well.
Turner said there are future plans for “a vastly improved pedestrian crossing from this side” of William Street/U.S. Highway 50 to Mills Park.
The 1,500 square foot Park Auto structure, originally built in 1962, over the past 15 years housed Realty Executives Nevada’s Choice, and Capitol Propane. Both Turner and Rob McFadden of RCM Realty Group were on hand Friday morning to prepare for and then witness the demolition work by Coons.
