Nevada Appeal at 150: Aug. 14, 1935: Social Security bill signed by president

Washington, Aug. 14 — UP — President Roosevelt today signed the Social Security Act into law. The bill created the Social Security system in the United States.

The bill is part of President Roosevelt’s Second New Deal.
