Parking lot argument results in drug arrest

An argument in a parking lot landed two people in jail on multiple drug charges Friday afternoon.

Lisa Cooney and David Engel, both 34, were each held in lieu of $33,500 bail after deputies searched their Park Street apartment, finding more than three ounces of marijuana, prescription drugs and paraphernalia, according to the arrest report from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

The apartment was searched after deputies said both were intoxicated despite the fact they were on probation with a no alcohol clause.

Deputies were in the area on another call when they saw the two arguing with another couple in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The other two were released to leave the scene.

P&P officer Ashley Miller told deputies a search of Engel’s phone revealed text messages indicating he was selling marijuana.

Each was charged with maintaining a drug house, possession for sales, possession of more than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and violating probation, all felonies, as well as possession of prescription drugs without a prescription and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.
