Faith and Insight: Instead of fussing, turn to God

The year is about 950 B.C. The king of Judah is Asa. He has led the kingdom in a huge moral and spiritual reform and instructed the people to seek the Lord and return to him. They did. They fortified their cities, and there was peace in the land. Then came the Cushite army of one million soldiers — nearly twice the size of Asa’s.

We join the story in 2 Chronicles 14:11.

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”

The year is 2016 and forces are rising against us. Economics, health issues, bad relationships, fears, hatred, addictions, crime, prejudice, and immorality threaten us and our world. We grouse and we complain. King Asa didn’t. He went to God.

God heard, and God answered. The Cushite army was routed and defeated by Jehovah God.

We can fuss and fume over the situations around us, or we can go to God. Local churches are here to help.
