Nevada Appeal at 150: Jan. 9, 1940: Speedy automobile planned for police department

Carson City’s police department is welcoming a new addition — a speedy automobile.

The Carson City Board of Trustees last evening voted to accept the offer by the Pozzi Motor Co. to provide a four-door sedan specially fitted and equipped for police service on a monthly rental basis.

Under the terms of the agreement between the Pozzi Motor Co. and the trustees of Carson, Pozzi will provide for use by the Carson police department a four-door sedan powered by a 95 horsepower motor, equipped with siren and spotlight, etc., for the rental of $50 per month. The Pozzi Motor Co. will keep the car in good repair and equipped with good tires, but the city will pay the gas and oil bills.

The Ford Company will power one of its cars with the 95 h.p. motor only when assured that the machine so equipped is for use in police work, Mr. Pozzi told the board.

The present police car will be retained for use by other city departments.

Mayor M.E. Norton presided at last evening’s meeting at which all board members, Oliver Pratt, George Lind, George Martin and City Engineer Mark Amodei also attended the regular January board meeting.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
