Faith & Insight: God’s promise

Have you ever made a promise? It could be a big promise or a little one, but have you ever made one? Most of us have made promises. I don’t ever want to break a promise. I want to do my best to be a man of my word.

I’ve heard it said “a promise is powerful word. It will either make something or break something.” Most of us don’t intentionally break our promises, but things in life happen and we end up hurting people. In the same way we get hurt by others. We’ve become so broken we come to expect things not to be as promised.

But with God it’s different.

We don’t have to worry about broken promises from God. “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind,” Numbers 23:19a. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,” Hebrews 13:8. We can trust God’s promises.

And this is the promise He has promised us — eternal life (1 John 2:25).

What a promise! God has given us life everlasting! We know no matter what our circumstances are today there’s a future beyond the moment. God’s promise makes us strong. Because of God’s promise we can continue to move forward in any circumstance.

God is with us. We should not think of God the way we think of others or even ourselves. God is good even when people are not. We can trust He has our best interest at heart. Put your faith in the Lord and follow the path he sets before you for your future holds a great promise. “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God,” Luke 18:27.
