Powwow returning to Carson City over Nevada Day weekend

The La Ka Lel Be Powwow will take place Oct. 28-30 at the Carson Colony Gym, 2900 S. Curry St.

There will be four chances to take in the celebration for all life on Earth — on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m., on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight, and on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

On Saturday, a potluck dinner break will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Those who attend are asked to bring their favorite dish.

Also, on Saturday traditional hand games will be played at 2 p.m.

There also will be a horseshoe tournament open to the public. It starts at 2 p.m., with sign-ups taking place from noon to 1:45 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to first through third place. For more information, call John Flint at 775-350-7900.

On Saturday night, a lip sync battle is scheduled; the finals of the battle are set for Sunday. Those interested can sign up Friday and Saturday. A cash prize will go to the winner.

On Sunday afternoon, a family friendly costume contest will take place. All kids will get candy.
