DOUGLAS COUNTY DAY CLUB OPEN

Carson Valley residents packed the new Adult Day Club Open House on Sept. 15 at the Community and Senior Center (1329 Waterloo Lane). A ceremony honoring the facility was held and Emily Buntin, Adult Day Club Director, addressed the crowd highlighting services the new facility will offer.


ITRONICS

Itronics Inc. reported its July and August 2016 GOLD’n GRO fertilizer sales were up 62 percent compared to the same period in 2015. The sales increase is partially a result of new application development by the Company’s fertilizer distributor in California.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA

A spokeswoman for Nevada’s medical marijuana registry says patients no longer have to go to the DMV to get their cards.

Patients can go to http://dpbhnv.gov and click on Medical Marijuana Registry. There, they can create an account, scan their drivers’ license and download then print their application.

Patients still have to get a physician to recommend them for the card and sign the waiver/acknowledgement in the presence of a Notary Public.

Letters of approval can be provided in as little as 24 hours and those letters can be used at dispensaries until the card arrives in the mail.


TMCC

Truckee Meadows Community College held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 20 for the newly renovated and renamed William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center. The center is located at 475 Edison Way in Reno.


777 CENTER

The old Maytan Building at 777 Center Street in Midtown, is at nearly full occupancy as Bukko, an Asian-Latin fusion restaurant, opens soon.

Owned and managed SVN® Gold Dust Commercial in Reno and Carson City, the building now houses pizza house Noble Pie Parlor, Piñon Bottle craft beers, the newly opening Bukko, as well as Lokal Salon, and The Eyelash Connection and Mystique Boutique.


NV ENERGY

NV Energy and the City of Reno have partnered to install a solar hot water heating system at Idlewild Pool.

The new solar system assists the existing system, which burns natural gas to heat the pool water. Renewable energy will now heat the outdoor pool during the summer months. NV Energy provided the City with a $30,000 incentive to offset the cost of the project, which will contribute to an approximate annual savings of $3,125.


RENOWN HEALTH

A ground-breaking community-based population health study launched earlier this month by Nevada-based Renown Health, the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and 23andMe, a leading personal genetics company, doubled its initial enrollment size earlier this month, bringing total participants to 10,000.

Officials then announced that Renown Health and DRI have closed open enrollment. Community members can sign up for a waiting list to be kept informed of availability at partners.renown.org.


PRESTIGE CARE

Prestige Care, a leader in exceptional senior living and skilled nursing and rehabilitation care, released further details of its joint plan with Carson Tahoe Health to construct a new senior living community specializing in comprehensive transitional rehabilitation and memory care. Carson Tahoe Health donated the land for the new center, which is scheduled to break ground at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 27, 2016. The two-story, 88,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art care center will open for service near the end of 2017.


BUSINESS COUNCIL OF DOUGLAS COUNTY

The Business Council of Douglas County’s Annual Critical Issues Conference will convene Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This year’s agenda is highlighted by a keynote address from economist Mr. Jim Rounds who will present an analysis of Nevada’s current economic data and discuss what the indicators for Nevada and Douglas County are in the coming years.

FINGERPRINTING EXPRESS

Fingerprinting Express, has partnered with the Carson City School District (CCSD) to provide fingerprints for all employees and volunteers over the next year. Just in time for the start of school year, all CCSD employees and volunteers will now be able to obtain fingerprints through Livescan technology at a reduced rate.


UNITED FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

United Federal Credit Union membership grew by the end of the second quarter to total more than 149,000, which is an increase of almost 7.7 percent when compared to last year.

The NCUA report shows that Nevada credit union memberships reached 340,000 at the end of the quarter meaning about 12 percent of the state’s population is choosing credit unions to meet their financial needs.

CHASE INTERNATIONAL

Sparks welcomed Chase International last month, when the region’s leading real estate company held a grand opening for its tenth office.

Located at Vista Boulevard and D’Andrea Parkway, the office is managed by Elizabeth Quinn. The 5,000-square-foot space will house 70 agents.


NDOT

The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising community members of a pilot program to further enhance roadway safety and aesthetics by reducing debris and unlawful access of state underpasses and other roadway structures.

The pilot program, estimated to cost a baseline of $1,600 per week, is aimed at preserving state roadsides as a safe and clean environment for all and may be expanded to patrol additional days of the week in the future.

Microsoft Reno presented The Children’s Cabinet with a $486,724 Software donation at the Art of Childhood fundraising gala held at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City. Through Microsoft’s Corporate Citizenship efforts, the Cyber Grant will support The Children’s Cabinet and their Redfield Academy technology upgrade in addition to software upgrades in their offices and program locations throughout the state.


DETR

Unemployment rates fell in all of Nevada’s metro areas in August. The rates in Las Vegas and Carson City registered at 6 percent, while the rate in Reno is 4.9 percent.


TRAVELNEVADA

At a recent U.S. Travel Association event in Florida, winners of the 2016 national Mercury Awards were announced. TravelNevada was named Best Public Relations Campaign for its current “Don’t Fence Me In” millennial marketing effort.


SUNWORKS

Sunworks, Inc., a leading provider of solar power solutions, announced that the Nevada Public Utilities Commission (NPUC) made the decision on Friday to allow homeowners with active Net Metering applications dated before January 1, 2016 the ability to revert back to full credit Net Metering rate structure. The decision to “grandfather” homeowners with active NEM applications creates the opportunity for Sunworks to assist nearly 15,000 eligible Nevada residents to acquire a premium solar system.

RTC

The RTC is beginning spot improvements to enhance safety and mobility in the North Valleys beginning Monday, Sept. 26th.

Locations where pedestrian improvements will be taking place are:Sky Vista Parkway – a crosswalk is being relocated between the Smith’s and Wal Mart to improve pedestrian access. Stead Boulevard and Silver Lake Road – Curbs are being built out in order to shorten crossing distances and new flashing beacons are being installed near two schools. Left turn pocket storage will be improved. Golden Valley Drive and North Virginia Street – Enhancements will be made to better accommodate truck turning movements at this location. A pedestrian-activated flashing beacon will be installed on Lemmon Drive and Surge Street .


CITY OF RENO

The City of Reno collaborated with local residents and the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) to host a ribbon cutting to celebrate the improvements at Virginia Lake Dog Park. The event took place Sunday, Sept. 25.

The improvements at Virginia Lake Dog Park are a result of a collaborative effort among the City of Reno, TMPF, and the Virginia Lake Dog Park Restoration Project, which was created by local residents.


BARRICK GOLD

Over 60 members from Barrick Gold mines were in Reno and Carson City earlier this month for a Global Mine Rescue Summit.
