Pioneer High School students excelling in new art program

Congratulations to Miriam Rodriguez for successfully creating an original interpretation of the classic mobile!

This type of sculpture, first introduced to the modern art world by Alexander Calder, shows kinetic motion and is a study on equilibrium.

Miriam successfully incorporated painted feathers of various sizes and thicknesses to achieve a three-dimensional composition with the desired balance and movement. She demonstrated excellent perseverance for as she stated, “I wanted to stop many times, but I’m glad I finished.”

Miriam is just one of the many talented students in Pioneer High School’s newly established art program which is a new, academic feature that fosters an environment of creative problem-solving and individual expression.

Many of the ideas coming out of these students are top-notch. They have so much to offer and are willing to express themselves and learn new things. Many thanks to the Carson City School District, the parents and all of those who continue their support of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Arts, and Math) academics.

Paul Lorion is an art teacher at PHS.
