INTERO

Intero Real Estate Services Reno, through the Intero Foundation, held the second annual Rodeo Decompression Party, raising more than $7,500 for Reno South Rotary’s Achievement Beyond Obstacles program.

The successful partnership has raised nearly $11,000 to support scholarships for local high school students through the organization’s “Most Improved Student” Program.

RENO AIR RACING ASSOCIATION

The National Championship Air Races announced that STIHL has signed on as the presenting sponsor for the 2016 and 2017 races.

NEW ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM

Carson City High School students will participate in the New Entrepreneurship Network (NewE) this school year. NewE is a youth entrepreneurship education program of the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation.

During the 2016-17 school year, four different programs will be offered to foster entrepreneurial thinking and hone problem-solving skills.

NDOT

Nevada Department of Transportation’s SR 28 Shared Use Path/Safety/Stormwater project is on schedule and reached a 25 percent milestone for this season’s Phase 1 of construction on September 2.

Part of the completion includes a “shoofly,” a temporary lane detour around the existing road to keep traffic flow at Tunnel Creek along State Route 28 in Incline Village.

WELLCARE HEALTH PLANS INC.

WellCare Health Plans, Inc. announced earlier this month that it gave $5,000 in micro-grants to five community-based organizations in Nevada, with three of the organizations in Reno.

Three micro-grants of $1,000 each went to the local non-profits The Solace Tree, STEP2, and NAMI Nevada.

TGM ARCHITECT

Award-winning architect Todd Mather has moved to a new office location in the Bechdolt building, suite 7, in Tahoe City, Calif.

Renovated from top to bottom by Mather and a few local subcontractors, the new larger space accommodates the growing business, offering a useful meeting space for clients and strengthening the partnership with Grey Blue Realty, which is located next door.

CITY NATIONAL BANK

City National Bank announced that colleagues of the bank collected over 1,400 backpacks filled with school supplies as part of its 7th Annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive held this month.

The bank is donating the backpacks filled with supplies to 54 elementary and middle schools, and nonprofit organizations in Nevada, California, New York, Georgia and Tennessee.

NEVADA VETERANS MEMORIAL BENEFIT DINNER

The 2nd annual Nevada Veterans Memorial Benefit Dinner is set for Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino. Proceeds from the dinner support the three-year, multimillion-dollar fundraising effort to build the Veterans Memorial Plaza, honoring all fallen soldiers in Nevada since official statehood in 1864.

Tickets are available for purchase online at NevadaVeteransMemorial.org.

The plaza is located at the future intersection of Veterans Parkway and Greg Street in Sparks.

Green Thumb Industries held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday for RISE Carson City, the capital city’s first medical marijuana dispensary at 135 Clearview Drive, Suite 119.

Former Baltimore Ravens star Eugene Monroe appeared at the ceremony.

RISE Carson City’s grand opening will be held on Friday, Sept. 16.

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) is seeking volunteers for their biggest event of the year – KTMB’s Truckee River Cleanup Day- set for Saturday, September 24th, from 9 am to noon. Hundreds of volunteers are needed for this massive beautification effort throughout the Truckee River watershed.

CITY OF RENO

The City of Reno has been adding art to sidewalks in an effort to make neighborhoods more vibrant.

Last week, the intersection of Arlington Avenue and First Street received the first part of a new art installation called Confluence that will consist of words on curbs.

A new national survey of community colleges shows that Western Nevada College is performing among the best in helping students reach their goals.

WalletHub’s recent nationwide analysis of 821 community colleges reveals that WNC rates among the top 19 percent in the country.

REMSA

Last Thursday REMSA and the Washoe County Health Department donated two portable automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office HASTY team. The donation is valued at $3,200.

SMITH’S

Smith’s Food & Drug Stores raised $475,000 during a statewide hospital fundraising campaign called “Bringing Hope and Healing to Kids,” in which customers could participate by adding a small donation at the registers, joining in-store activities, or dropping coins into boxes at check stands. A company golf tournament with suppliers as well as associate contributions also contributed significantly to the proceeds.

This year, $400,000 was raised for children at Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican in Southern Nevada, and $75,000 was raised for Renown Children’s Hospital in Reno.

ANACONDA COPPER MINE SITE

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it is proposing to add the Anaconda Copper Mine site in Lyon County to the Superfund program’s National Priorities List.

The proposal is the first step in a process to make the site eligible to receive federal funding for a long-term, permanent cleanup.
