The public is invited to the 75th birthday bash of Nevada State Museum today.

This day of honor is filled with special events from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.

9-9:45 a.m.: Behind-the-scenes tour #1 – sign up at entry table

10 a.m. to noon: Medallion minting – ongoing, Coin Press Room

10:30-11 a.m.: Opening remarks – museum concourse stage McAvoy Lane; elected officials; Guild, Russell, Calhoun Family representatives

IN CASE YOU ARE IN NEED OF A TRICK OR A TREAT

A costume contest and Halloween karaoke from 7 to 11 p.m. today at Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Ave.

Old-fashioned Halloween fun is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Fort Churchill State Historic Park in Silver Springs. The family-friendly event will feature activities including harvest games on the museum lawn, a scavenger hunt around the fort ruins and pumpkin carving and scarecrow building contest. Bring your own pumpkin carving tools and clothing to dress your scarecrow. Pumpkin carving and scarecrow building will be available starting at 4 and judging will take place at 6 p.m. All other activities will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. while supplies last. Virginia City is the site of a monthlong “Hauntober” celebration, a ghostly celebration culminating on Oct. 31. Events include Ghost Walk Tours by Bats in the Belfry 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27-30 at locations around Virginia City. Costumed goblins will march down Virginia City’s C Street at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Entry is free and sign-ups begin at 3 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Company, 204 S. C St. Following the Goblin Parade, safe trick-or-treating will take place until 8 p.m. A costume contest also is planned at 4:30 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Company; sign up at 3 p.m. at the same place.

A night walk of the Silver Terrace Cemetery in Virginia City is planned from 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 31. The cemetery opens after dark only once a year, on Halloween night, for a walk among the graves on the spookiest night of the year.

Carson City Library will be offering spooky crafts, games and a costume contest from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today in the Digitorium, 900 N. Roop St. The library will be open to trick-or-treaters from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Halloween.

Carson Tahoe Health’s annual Spooktacular celebration from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27 offers trick-or-treating, a bounce house, booths, and displays of fire trucks, ambulances and a CareFlight helicopter. The free event takes place in the north parking lot at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada’s Safe Halloween Celebration is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. The event, at 813 N. Carson St., includes trick-or-treating and Halloween crafts for $5 per child. Call 775-884-2226 for more information.

A free Halloween party to benefit veterans in need from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 at Veterans Healing Camp, 1775 E. Highway 50, Silver Springs. The event includes games, hayrides, a costume contest, live music by Randy Ide and food and drinks. Bring a carved pumpkin to enter into the pumpkin contest, and dress up for the costume contest.
