Key stakeholders at North Lake Tahoe-Truckee counties recently came together to assess housing in the region.
Among the participants in the study were special districts, towns, nonprofits, businesses, police, citizens, homeowners and seasonal employees. The participants shared their stories and personal experiences in order to develop a real understanding of North Tahoe-Truckee’s complex housing needs.
The final 2016 Regional Housing Study has been released.
At 424 pages, the study is an in-depth document that covers the areas identified as key to establishing a common understanding and baseline needs assessment for North Tahoe-Truckee.
The presentation includes the geographic areas studied, present workforce and tourism trends, and the current housing market as well as proposed housing projects.
Alongside estimates of future housing demands, the document shares case studies of the mountain communities that have implemented strategic solutions we could learn from.
The document concludes with policy and program recommendations for the communities to consider, proposed by the consulting firm contracted to perform the assessment, BAE Urban Economics.
