New local book store sets goal to donate books

Join area leaders, politicians, Greg Murphy, a multi-million dollar Amazon bookseller and the Reno Chamber of Commerce for the new “Dollar Book Swap Reno” ribbon cutting ceremony.

The event will take place inside the Great Western Marketplace, 4855 Summit Ridge Drive Reno, NV 89523 on September 15, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. with a wine and cheese celebration.

Community is a huge part of this store’s mission, with the focus on taking your book dollars furthest. The goal is to provide quality affordable used books to our local market and around the country, and to get one million books into the hands of children and adults in our most at risk neighborhoods in Northern Nevada/Northern California area.

“A book is a gift that can be opened again and again,” said Sandy Isham, Senior Development & Community Relations Officer, Volunteers of America. “We look forward to partnering with Dollar Book Swap to make sure we get books into the hands of the men, women, and children we serve while they work toward their goals of obtaining housing and reaching self-sufficiency.”

Dollar Book Swap Reno is affordable shopping for books, CD’s and DVD’s for the Reno/Tahoe area. Books are $3 or less, music and movies $2 each and children’s books are $1 each or a bag full for $10. Customers are encouraged to bring in their excess books to exchange for store credits. Qualified textbooks will be bought for cash, and trade-ins are welcome for store credit.

There will be a semi-monthly charity chosen to receive funds from a roundup of purchase price to the next whole dollar. Our first partnership will kick off soon with Volunteers of America and the Reno Community Assistance Center with a campaign to “change a life”. Local charities can inquire about the guidelines in the store. Volunteers are encouraged to help support our literacy goal by sorting items and receive $30 in store credit for each three hours worked. Volunteer hours are available daily and information is available at the store.

The store will be open every Friday 11:00 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11:00 a.m.- 5 p.m.

About Dollar Book Swap Reno, it is the brainchild of Greg Murphy a multimillion dollar Amazon bookseller from Dayton, Ohio who began his online book selling as Murfbooks. After several years he searched for a way to get the same great finds in the hands of others. He set a goal to keep excess books out of our landfills and Dollar Book Swap Dayton was born. Several years ago Greg and Mandy Gunn discussed a similar need in Reno-Tahoe area and from there Dollar Book Swap Reno is born. Both Greg and Mandy have more than 10 years’ experience in selling books and media, educating others on book selling and promoting community service and literacy. Both are excited to expand to the local Reno/Tahoe area.
