Carson City couple in abduction case located

A Secret Witness tip led authorities early Thursday morning to two people being sought in connection with the Monday abduction of their children.

Dason Valdez was arrested on a warrant in Carson City. Krystle Reid was released in connection with the case.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bernadette Smith said the couple was located by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 12:05 a.m. Thursday after deputies responded to reports of a suspicious subject near the 3300 block of S. Carson Street. He was arrested by Carson deputies on suspicion of a felony contempt of court warrant.

Charges for both are pending in Douglas County, Smith said.

On Monday, Valdez and Reid lost custody of two children after a ruling in the Carson City District Court. The couple were sought for allegedly forcefully taking a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old from their grandmother.

Valdez allegedly battered his mother while forcefully taking the 4-year-old girl from her arms and fled to Carson City, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

“Prior to leaving the residence Valdez told his parents that he was going to return later in the night and kill both of them,” investigators said.

An amber alert on Monday night resulted in the safe return of the children to the home.

The Mazda four-door sedan was found and impounded, according to the sheriff’s office.
